What I Thought:
Part of what drew me to this book was the premise. A road trip during the summer while touring with "the band" with a possible romance was like apple pie a la mode, too good to resist. For it's part, the book delivered what it promised and more. The other draw was the gorgeous cover. I love the mix of bold and bright colors which really represent summer for me.
I fell for Reagan, Matt, and Lilah as they toured city after city. I was beyond appalled by some of the things that happened to Lilah and what she went through. I understand that the entertainment industry is built on image and all, but I still couldn't stomach what I saw. If that's what being a celebrity is like, I'll let someone else have it and never wish for it again. I loved Reagan for her fierceness and protectiveness of Lilah. Reagan applied that same ferocity to protecting her heart from anyone who seemed like it might be a threat. Reagan was that cool chick I wanted to be friends with when I was in high school. One of my favorite parts of the book is where it's mentioned how Reagan and Lilah met and became friends and how they see each other. I think plainly stated, Matt simply stole my heart. He was steadfast, willing to prove it, and lets not forget talented. For someone who was also nursing a broken heart, I loved his openness to keep trying to put his trust in someone. That takes guts.
Emery Lord's story features all of its characters in phases of discovery. Reagan, Matt, and Lilah are learning how to deal with their new realities and where they want to go from there. Their journey is a mix of highs and lows that will keep you turning page after page. I can't wait for Emery Lord's next book. She's set the bar really high with this fantastic book. If you're looking for a book that will keep you entertained now that summer is fast approaching, you can't go wrong with this one. I laughed, cried, and hooted with joy as I read this book and I know you will too. If you're still undecided, all you need to read is the first couple of pages and all your doubts will dissipate. :)
