Synopsis: Sometimes you make a mistake. Sometimes he's hard to forget. When Vanessa Randall appears on "Eye of the Tiger," a popular reality TV show, she isn't prepared to see her Vegas Hunky Hottie from four years earlier. She needs the Chicago Internet mogul's help, but he's the last man she wants back in her life. Oh, Alex recognizes her all right. The long-legged brunette had called herself Vivien Leigh before slipping out before dawn. More than a little ticked off, he becomes Vanessa's mentor to help her ramp up Randall's Whipped Cream Cakes. Revenge can be sweet. When business becomes personal, things get complicated. He wasn't counting on her toddler stealing his heart. His beach house on Lake Michigan doesn't impress her. Will sand castles and cinnamon toast win her trust? No way in hell does he want to be her favorite mistake. Subtle, sexy love scenes. "Her Favorite Mistake" is the first novel in the Windy City Romance series.
What I Thought:

I haven't read a sweet contemporary adult romance in a while, and I when I saw this book I had a feeling I'd enjoy reading it and I did.  It took me about an hour and a half to read it, which should tell you it was a good book; I was turning pages as fast I could read them.  I hadn't read anything written by Barbara Lohr before this, but I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of this trilogy.

We're first introduced to Vanessa and her sister Jillian as they make an appearance on a reality television show looking for backing for the failing family business.  All of a sudden someone from Vanessa's past makes an appearance and she's shaken, but she pulls through and she leaves with a deal from the one guy she never expected to see again.

I really liked Vanessa and Alex.  I especially admired Vanessa's work ethic.  She was willing to do whatever it took to keep her heritage and family well and together.  She also didn't focus on the bad spots in her life, even if they did sometimes rear their heads.  With Alex, I liked how determined he was to get to know Vanessa.  He overcame his supposed fear of children, but it's hard not to love a little boy like Bo.  He's adorable and will steal your heart. I also liked that he always was willing to help Vanessa or her family when needed and he always had her best interests at heart, even when he was jealous.  I also like how he had a strong bond with his sister, and even though he wasn't close with his parents, he still took their lessons to heart.

For a while, I wasn't sure why Vanessa was hiding information from Alex, but when the truth came out, it all made sense.  I guess one lesson I and any other reader can take away from this novel besides persistence pays off is, haste can be detrimental, and so can assumptions.  While sweet, there was plenty of heat between Alex and Vanessa.  I do hope Barbara will write Jillian's story.  I look forward to stepping back into the Windy City trilogy and seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones.
